It was finally Sunday again. This meant it was time for me to get together with my friends and enjoy our weekly ritual of catching up on each other’s lives and just spending quality time away from the rest of the world. This week the festivities were being held at Simone and David’s house.

I was really looking forward to being there. I could really use a nice, relaxing afternoon without any stress or having to think too much. It was also the perfect opportunity for me to talk everything out and try to untangle my feelings for Austin.

I realized I couldn’t just keep floating along without any sort of idea of what was going on between us. As much fun as it was to just enjoy what was starting, it was unrealistic to think that could just keep going into perpetuity. At some point, there would have to be some idea of what was happening. We had to figure out what we were really feeling for each other and what it was our flirty back-and-forth meant.

Talking it all through with the ladies would help me to see it more clearly and figure out what to do next. In a way it felt like the decision was resting completely on me. It wasn’t, of course. He was still a part of this and would have to decide for himself how he felt about it and what he wanted out of it.

But there was a sense of responsibility in it, a feeling of significance, when it came to me evaluating how I felt and how I wanted to move forward.

It didn’t hurt that this was one of the occasional weeks dotted throughout our schedule when the children of the group would be there with us rather than staying with their fathers. Most of the time it wasn’t just us grown-up girls, but sometimes one or both of the fathers of the group would have something else they needed to do on a Sunday and wouldn’t be able to have the babies the entire time. That meant they got to join in on our fun.

Of course, that changed things a bit. There was always a shift in the time we spent together when there were going to be little ones around. I wouldn’t say our Sundays together ever slipped all the way into debauchery, but there were definitely elements of our conversations that were not family-friendly. The alcohol also flowed at a less steady pace, turning the focus more to the food.

Everyone was out in the backyard by the time I got to Simone and David’s house. The back patio was one of her favorite features of the home David bought for them. She loved being able to sit out there and let Eve and Grace play and run around in the yard while she watched them or read. It was also her favorite place to go to design pieces and custom fabrics for the clothing line sold at her boutique.

When I got to the backyard, Eve, Grace, and CJ were running around in the grass and playing.
